Tyler Priest is a former education and outreach park ranger for Texas State Parks. In his 6 years, he led day hikes and backpacking trips for hundreds of people across the state. Tyler has lived and adventured extensively in Far West Texas for the past 5 years. He’s spent more than a year of his life in remote backcountry settings and he’s logged several thousand trail miles including thru-hikes of the 2600-mile Pacific Crest Trail and the 500-mile Colorado Trail. He’s excited to share some wild landscapes in Far West Texas that are equally as mind-blowing as they are well-kept secrets.

Itinerary

  • Hop in the desert express and enjoy a beautiful drive to West Texas.

    We will make a stop in the historic German town of Fredericksburg to grab a delicious meal.

    On this first night, we will be staying in Marfa TX to meet our guides and enjoy our last hours of cell reception.

  • We will depart early morning to enjoy a beautiful scenic 1.5 hr drive to Big Bend National Park.

    On this first day, you will hike up Tapado Canyon approximately 7.5 - 9 miles.

    We will set up camp and let the silence of the desert guide us on a journey within.

  • Rise with the desert sun and enjoy a warm cup of coffee before heading to Oso Peak.

    After enjoying the stunning vista of this peak, we will replenish in the springs and hike down to another incredible desert vista where we will set up camp and stargaze.

    We will hike 11 - 12 miles this day.

  • On this last day, we will hike 5 miles back to civilization.

    We will grab the best Texas BBQ you have ever had, in the ghost town of Terlingua, TX, and head back to arrive back in Austin at night.
